Please mark your calendar to join HHROC, OC organizations, and community members in our annual event to “Saying the Names” to remember and memorialize the hundreds of unhoused people who died on the streets of Orange County while trying to survive living outdoors (without-fixed-abode) throughout Orange County.
It’s important to know that the OC Sheriff-Coroner reports the names of those who died without-fixed-abode; however, the reports of the unhoused who died are substantially underreported. the names of those who died while in a hospital, shelter, jail, supportive & transitional housing, and whose bodies were claimed by a family member are not included in the OC Sherrif-Coroner report.
We believe that everyone life should be recognized and remembered; especially, because they belonged and were part of our Orange County community. The idea that the OC Sherrif-Coroner regularly fails to recognize or include their names is unacceptable.
The measure of a healthy society is not its wealth, power, or leadership, but its willingness to care for one another.
